About Us

A Small Farm in Southwest Virginia

Hello!  Thank you for taking an interest in Crooked Horn Farm!  We are a small emerging farm in the mountains of Giles County, Virginia.  I, Randy Ott, am the owner and operator of our little establishment and grew up amongst the crop farms in the piedmont region of Maryland at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  A love of the outdoors and all the sights and sounds of nature captivated me as a small child while learning to hunt and fish with my father.  I suppose the wildlife opportunities were the driving force into why my wife and I chose to put down roots here and call this place home.  That and the gorgeous, peaceful landscape we are blessed to be surrounded by every day.

Despite having not actually growing up "on a farm," I have always shared an affinity for animals.  Our dogs are an extension of our family and dare I say so have become our goats.  After graduating from Virginia Tech, and working as a landscape architect for several years, something was missing.  When the opportunity to return the New River VaIley and secure a piece of land for ourselves arose, we jumped on it.  Soon, we wanted more.  With the help of my wife and our boys, ground was broken and the work began to turn our overgrown acres into a productive farm for our own enjoyment, sustenance and now to share with others.  I started with a vegetable garden followed by a few feathered friends, but soon everything was expanding.  We now maintain a small herd of goats, hatch 40+ chicks a season, and produce as much fruit and vegetables as we can muster.  It has been a roller coaster ride of experiences and opportunities on which we are still strapped in and learning with each twist and curve along the way.

In 2023 we took the leap to make our endeavor official naming our venture Crooked Horn Farm after our four-legged friends.  We are now offering the sale of our goats to others so that more and more people can learn about the myotonic breed and find success with the addition of goats in their lives as we have in ours.
